Matic Life Safety Systems has successfully completed a full fire alarm replacement project at Victoria Academy in Leeds for Wellspring Academy Trust.
Delivered during the school’s six-week summer holiday, the project required a tightly managed programme to ensure the new system was fully operational ahead of pupils and staff returning for the new academic year.
Fire alarm replacement delivered during summer break
Matic was responsible for the full delivery process, from initial validation and design development through to installation, testing, commissioning, certification and handover.
The works included the removal of redundant equipment, validation of existing cable routes, installation of the new fire alarm system, system demonstrations, staff training and final handover documentation.
The completed installation provides a BS 5839-1:2025 Category L3 fire detection and alarm system, with Matic developing the compliant design, fire alarm zoning, cause-and-effect requirements and associated BAFE certification.
Careful delivery in a live school environment
With the project taking place in an existing school building, careful coordination was essential throughout. The existing fire alarm installation was retained until the new system was complete, helping maintain appropriate protection during the transition.
The team also worked carefully around existing finishes and mural artwork, ensuring the upgrade was delivered with minimal impact on the school environment.

Following completion, Wellspring Academy Trust rated Matic Excellent, 5 out of 5 across every area of its contractor performance assessment, including quality of works, programme reliability, technical competence, communication, commercial management, health and safety, and overall satisfaction.
