Obsidian has officially topped out at Trinity Way, Greengate, marking a major milestone for the 26-storey residential tower that will deliver 250 new homes at the gateway to Manchester city centre.

Venture partners Salboy and Domis Construction marked the moment on site with a topping out ceremony attended by key stakeholders from across the project team, with panoramic views across Salford and Manchester’s growing skyline.

A milestone moment on site

Guests joined the Domis and Salboy teams to celebrate the progress achieved to date and recognise the collaboration required to deliver safely at height in a live city environment. Salford City Council was represented by Councillor Philip Cusack, Chair of Planning and Transportation, who spoke about the positive role Obsidian will play in supporting Salford’s continued growth and regeneration.

Domis Managing Director Kingsley Thornton and Salboy CEO Simon Ismail also addressed attendees, reflecting on the teamwork behind the build and the momentum now carrying the project into the next phases towards late 2026 completion.

Matic’s role in delivering critical building services

Matic Building Services has played a key role in supporting delivery at Obsidian, leading the installation and coordination of central plant room systems that underpin the building’s essential mechanical, electrical and life-safety infrastructure.

This includes the boosted cold-water system and associated distribution equipment serving the residential network, as well as interfaces for wet riser and sprinkler systems within the plant spaces. On the electrical side, Matic’s works include the installation of key power distribution equipment serving critical building systems, alongside the life-safety standby generator and interfaces required for resilient operation and monitoring.

Matic also delivered site-wide temporary services during construction, providing reliable temporary power distribution, site lighting and water supplies to support safe day-to-day operations across the build programme.

With the structure now at its highest point, focus turns to the next stages of delivery as Obsidian progresses through fit-out and commissioning. Alongside the wider Domis Group delivery team, Matic is proud to be supporting a project that continues the transformation of Greengate and strengthens the connection between Salford and Manchester’s city centre edge.
